Records, 1713-1883.

Records (1764-1883) of the First Church of Groton, Mass., include annual reports of the Groton Ministerial Fund, bonds posted by the Fund's trustees, and applications for loans from the Fund. Originating from the bequest of Josiah Sartell, the Fund was loaned in varying amounts to individuals who pledged real estate as security, and the interest was used to pay the salary of the Church's minister. The collection contains extensive notes, correspondence, and other papers concerning the conflict between supporters of the orthodox Rev. Daniel Chaplin and a faction that retained control of Church property. A collection of Groton deeds (1713-1818), many relating to property owned by the Parker family, is also included.
